First came Bing's Top 2011 Searches, the Yahoo came up with its most searched in 2011 list, and now it's Google's turn. Google has released its annual Zeitgeist report, that tells 'What The World Searched For in 2011' .

According to Google, of the billions of searches performed in 2011 search trends emerged with YouTube sensation Rebecca Black (termed as web celebrity by Google) claimed the top spot as fastest-rising search term globally. Google+ and Ryan Dunn (Jackass star who died in a car crash this summer) claimed the second and third spot respectively.

The Zeitgeist 2011 data has the top 10 searches in various categories like sports, entertainment, news across 48 countries. The list is complete with options for you to compare results of two queries on each list on an interactive graph.

On the global level Rebecca Black came out as the fastest rising query in the world. Here is the list of top 10 Global searches:

  5. Battlefield 3

  7. Adele
  8. TEPCO (Japanese electric utility company)
  9. Steve Jobs

As many of you must have noticed, Kim Kardashian, who was on the most searched list across Facebook, Bing,, and AOL is not on the Google list.

Among other popular searches, the Japanese earthquake was also widely searched. As per Google,“It wasn’t just the man-made moments that topped the charts this year, but also the natural disasters that literally shook the world, from Hurricane Irene in the U.S. to the earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan. Terms related to the Japanese earthquake showed up on lists from almost half of the countries included in the 2011 Zeitgeist, including Japan".
