  2. Flappy Bird: This simple yet effective gaming app took charge of the scene upon its arrival and it was leading all iOS downloads at one time. What came as a surprise is that the creator removed the fame for download on account of its addictive nature.
  3. Frozen: This Walt Disney movie has topped every top 2014 list so far. While it attained seventh place in overall searches, the addition of searches for the songs and characters of this epic movie took it to number three in the Top Obsessions category.
  4. Fifty Shades of Grey movie: Regardless of whether a movie was about to be made or not, readers went online to search for the possibility of a screen adaptation. Of course, a movie is now in the works about this famous book series.
  5. American Ninja Warrior: An obstacle ridden course of this game has defeated men and women for many years. The first ever women to complete the course this year was Kacy Katanzaro at 5 feet tall and 100 pounds only.
  6. The Duggars: The family from 19 Kids and Counting celebrated the marriage of their first two daughters in the summer and fall respectively of this year.
  7. All About That Bass: Meghan Trainor’s doo-wop single inspired girls all over the world to hum along and work through their body image issues in the meantime.
  8. Katniss Everdeen: Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen from epic movieThe Hunger Games series has created waves in international cinema. Katniss’s name surpassed the movie title in search results, in fact.
  9. Cleanses: Cleanses to make you look good and feel better have been on each year. This year too, detox drinks made it to chains, local shops and supermarkets.
  10. Polar Vortex: Massively low temperatures in Wisconsin and Florida setting a record low at the start of the year spurred conspiracy theories and comedic responses. Later during the year, the Wall Street Journal pointed out that "Polar Vortex" is a phrase that has been used leading back to Victorian England.
