Twitter has announced the roll out of "universal search results" on to bring the web search on Twitter more in line with the mobile experience.

The changes were announced via tweet:

Search update on : See photos & accounts in results + recent searches & social context as you type your query.

The primary changes have been made to the main search results panel of

  1. Accounts or People have been merged into search results
  2. Photos are now showing search results
  3. A new Photos tab on the left is joining "Results" and "People" filters

Apart from the above 3 changes, some other improvements have also been made to Twitter. When you click on the search box, dropdown will appear with Recent Searches and Saved Searches options.

Twitter Rolls Out Universal Search Results!

Twitter has added "social context", a feature that will tell you if you have any relationship with the matching accounts that you are typing. In case you are already following an account, Twitter will show that. Twitter will also display the accounts that are being followed by the accounts you follow.
