Twitter has turned 7 years old and to mark the special occasion it has released the following special video. The video features many significant moments in the growth of the service such as the first tweet, hashtags as well as launch of retweets.
Twitter co-creator Jack Dorsey tweeted for the first time on March 21, 2006. It was a random tweet which read, "just setting up my twttr", however, twitter has been a part of news worthy action over the years. Its has become hugely popular and now has more than two hundred million active users. Plus, on an average 400 million tweets are made everyday. That is a phenomenal number.
Karen Wickre, The Editorial Director of Twitter, has taken this opportunity to thank everyone for the success of Twitter since its inception on the official Twitter blog. She says, “Today is Twitter’s 7th birthday, which we observe on the day @jack first tweeted. Since then, we’ve seen breathtaking velocity in Twitter’s growth, which is due entirely to your many uses of it. We’re gratified that so many millions of you have made Twitter yours.”
“As we’ve grown, Twitter has become a true global town square — a public place to hear the latest news, exchange ideas and connect with people all in real time. This is where you come to connect with the world at large. Get on your soapbox to critique elected officials, or go sotto voce to the neighbor next to you. And as in other gathering places, commerce happens too (and jokes and art-making and debating, and — you get the idea).”
A very Happy 7th Birthday to Twitter!
