Google announces this year’s 40 Regional Finalists for the U.S. Doodle 4 Google contest. With this announcement, the company also says that the polls are open and users can vote for their favorite doodle. These winners are picked by a panel of incredibly talented guest judges including Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Davis, Evan Lysacek, Nicole Stott, Paul Tibbitt, Beverly Cleary and others.
Google says that they have received a record number of doodle submissions this year. The company received an astounding number of over 107,000 submissions from young and talented student artists from each US state. From these overall submissions 400 state finalists were chosen and then 40 regional finalists from the state finalists. The voting for the national winner is on.
The online voting for the Doodle 4 Google winner from the 40 regional finalists is open to public till 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT), 13th of May, 2011. The voting page has four categories, divided on the basis of grade groups – K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. There will be four national finalists, one from each grade group. The final national winner will be announced on the 19th of May, 2011 at an awards ceremony organized by Google in New York and the winner's design will appear on Google.com on the 20th of May, 2011. There is also an award of $15,000 college scholarship for the national winner and a $25,000 for a new computer lab for his or her school from Google.
The 40 Regional Finalists' doodles will be displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and also at SFMOMA in San Francisco.
