Yahoo! is going in the right path. It is working to open up and this time it is not restricting itself to its partners only. Now, users and especially user-developers will work together with the Yahoo! team to make the company more advanced and improved. Head of news and information for Yahoo’s Media Group, Scott Moore, told Business Week, “We are trying to make Yahoo! into more of an open platform that lots of people can plug into.”

The article published on The Business Week, focuses on the new business policies of Yahoo!. The article states that, “The company is also working with partners to create applications that let users embed non-Yahoo! sites and services onto their personalized Yahoo! homepage. Yahoo! says such steps are only the beginning.”

To begin with, Yahoo! has released the source codes for Yahoo's e-mail to allow third parties to create small programs, known as 'widgets'. These widgets are similar to Google Gadgets or Facebook Apps, and Yahoo! has taken a vital step in revitalizing Yahoo’s fortunes.

Some time back Brad Garlinghouse, author of last year’s Peanut Butter Manifesto and Senior Vice President of Communications, Communities, said “a future where Yahoo Mail could include a widget from Web invitation site Evite, a subsidiary of Yahoo competitor IAC/InterActive, that could let users share events with their Yahoo contact list. We are going to experiment, we are going to take more risks”

No doubt, this is a good step taken by Yahoo!. But one can't ignore the rumour of virus with Yahoo’s Right Media ads. This open platform can in a way encourage further virus and spam attacks. There is still some time to find out how much Yahoo! is going to open up.
