Logan Kilpatrick, lead PM for Google DeepMind/Gemini, said on X around 7pm ET Friday that Google AI Mode will be the default for Google Search “soon,” shortly after google.com/ai began redirecting to the AI Mode interface. On Sunday, Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, urged not to read too much into it, saying the focus is on making AI Mode easier to access rather than an immediate switch for everyone.

Bing Adds Keyword Prompts to Its Floating Copilot Search Box

Microsoft has enhanced the Bing search interface by introducing clickable keyword suggestions adjacent to its floating Copilot search box—an addition designed to help users decide what to search for next. This UI tweak aims to nudge users into more conversational, AI-driven search sessions, though opinions on its clarity and usefulness remain mixed.

Bing Tests Expandable Related Searches That Reveal More on Hover

Microsoft is experimenting with a new interactive feature in Bing’s search results where hovering over the “Related searches” suggestions automatically expands the list to show additional related queries. This UX tweak, spotted and replicated by Barry Schwartz and Khushal Bherwani, adds a smooth, accordion-like interaction to help users explore deeper search ideas.

Google Experiments with Heavily Shaded Header Designs in Search Results

Google is testing a new search interface where the top header bar appears with heavier shading to make it stand out more clearly from the results below. Several variations have been observed, including different designs for both light and dark modes.

Google Tests AI Overview Integrated with Knowledge Panel

Google is testing a hybrid format where the “AI Overview” is visually merged with knowledge panel elements—without the usual AI Overview label—and presented in a stacked card design on the right side of search results. The experiment replaces the standard list layout with layered cards, aiming for a more integrated and click-enticing presentation.
