Facebook has announced the verified pages and profiles features, which is very similar to what Twitter had introduced long time back. The feature will verify pages and profiles of celebrities, popular brands, known personalities etc. Just like Twitter accounts, verified Facebook accounts will also show a blue tick mark next to their names.
It is not happening for the first time that a social network is copying features of another. Twitter also copied profile header/cover images features and Facebook has also changed the Subscribe tag to Follow.
Here's what Facebook said about the new feature:
Today we’re launching verified Pages to help people find the authentic accounts of celebrities and other high-profile people and businesses on Facebook. Verified Pages have a small, blue check mark beside their name on timelines, in search results, and elsewhere on Facebook. Verified Pages belong to a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences. This update is rolling out to profiles as well.
