#Socialmedia: Facebook Rolling out Wikipedia Knowledge Panels Weeks After being Put Under Fire to Step-up its Fact-Checking Policies
Weeks ago, Twitter was on the spot for fact-check President Donald Trump’s post. Trump’s post claimed that mail-in-bots lead to fraudulent elections, but Twitter disagreed by providing a link to information that proves the contrary. That move did not go well with the President who decried a violation to his right of expression.
At the same time, Facebook came under pressure to follow in Twitter’s footsteps. Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, however, disagreed with the move, saying that social networks need NOT fact-check political speeches.
The Facebook CEO seems to have since caved. The company is now working on a pilot fact-checking feature. Now, when you make some searches on Facebook, you will be getting a Wikipedia profile as part of your result, similar to what you see on Google.
Is this move going to help the fact-checking problem at hand? What else is Facebook up to in its fact-checking strategy?
