Google has launched a broad core algorithm update last week. They confirmed on Twitter that the algorithm update was released on April 16th. Google released a similar algorithm update early last month. After a short period, it was explained that a “broad core” algorithm update is something which occurs regularly several times per year.

Google Confirms Algorithm Release Update on April 16th

Gigolo is opening a kimono to slightly reveal how it manages autocomplete function on its search engine. It offers a peek into within the logic behind predictions, some of the policies that govern when a prediction will be removed and more. In a Google Blog post, search liaison Danny Sullivan also revealed announced that the company will be expanding types of autocomplete predictions they disallow in weeks to come.

The post clarified one of the functions which had landed the Google into a controversy in recent years when the public was outraged by certain predictions and blamed the company for being racist.

Autocomplete has always been the subject of legal disputes with courts in Japan and Germany taking measures on results some regard as unfair. However, Google has maintained that autocomplete results simply reflect the behavior of searchers, though it has to initiate policies and manually manage results after repeated controversies.

This has also been reflected in Google Search trends. In the last quarter of 2017, there was a surge of more than 45 percent in job search queries as compared to last year. More than half of job-related queries are originating from mobiles in India. Mobile-based queries have gone up by nearly 90 percent year by year.

Google AdWords has launched a new video format which is likely to extend the reach of video campaigns beyond YouTube. The new format, which is called outstream video ads is specifically built for mobile and will be displayed in apps and mobile browsers.

“Outstream ads drive incremental, cost-efficient and viewable reach beyond YouTube. Ads show on Google video partners, which are high-quality publisher websites and mobile apps where you can show video ads, including TrueView in-stream and Bumper ads.”

The latest version of Google Search Console has added a filter in Performance report for “Search Appearance”. The Search Appearance filter, which is also available in the older version of Search Console’s Search Analytics report enables you to compare or filter Rich results, AMP articles, AMP non-rich results, job details and job details.

If you only want to view the performance of your AMP articles, you can filter the report to show you that detail. Or if you intend to compare your Rich results with the AMP non-rich results to AMP article results, you can also do that. Here is a GIF from Google of this action:-

Google has officially launched the “More Results” search button on mobile. Now it is possible to load additional search results beyond the first set of displayed results. This announcement was made through a tweet from Google’s @SearchLiason account, which confirmed that new “More results” will be replacing the earlier “Next” button which would show a new page for mobile search results.

Google has introduced infinite scrolling to mobile search results pages. Earlier, there were page numbers on the bottom of SERPs.Now there is a “more results” button. Tappings on the button will trigger more search results for loading inside the same page. Google has made a confirmation that this is only a “test”. But this is not one of those tests which happen occasionally.

Possibly it is a “test” in the sense that it is available widely. However, Google will decide whether it will keep this feature based on user feedback or not. We can assume that this is a temporary till Google confirms that it is permanent. Has Google altered the definition of what it means for ranking on the first page?We will need to wait and see if this test becomes a permanent parameter.

Google has expanded the capability of more businesses to add their services to their menus.

This comprises not only restaurant owners, which they added a couple of months ago, but also many other service-based businesses ranging from florists to plumbers and health care. In order to access this, you will have to log in to your Google My Business Listing, click on info tab before selecting edit or add services icon. After clicking you can add your services to the pop-up so that it is visible on your profile.

Bing has launched a new feature which will enable users to add price extensions to their search ads. Price extensions enable advertises to promote their products or services more effectively. Clicks lead to either a sales page of their site or to the storefront of a third-party.
