Google’s new markup that helps website to customize how their search snippets are shown, will start being utilized this week. Google made this announcement on Wednesday via Twitter.

This new markup was launched in September and offers website owners more control over how their content is shown in Google search snippets. Utilizing the new markup, website owners can customize different attributes of search snippets. Attributes may include the size of thumbnail images, and the length of a snippet and video previous.

Indviduals who don’t want to share too much information in SERPs can utilize the new markup to restrict whole sections of text from being visible in a snippet. Google also informed SEOs out this change through its @SearchLiaison account on Twitter:

SEOs and website owners who have implemented this markup will witness changes in search results in a week. Those who haven’t implemented it can do so at any time they want to. The changes will be visible the next time Google crawls your site. This update hasn’t been created to affect the search rankings of websites which use the markup. It will only affect the way snippets are shown in search results.
